After rain in the morning the weather improved by noon and 11 eager walkers assembled at Plantation Street. Unfortunately only 2 cars were available so one person had to withdraw, thanks to Christine for volunteering so that the others could be accommodated. Upon arrival at The Bonny Inn in Salesbury there were a further 3 ladies waiting for us as they lived nearby so our number was now an unlucky thirteen.
We set out over fields before reaching Saccary Lane and had our refreshments at Saccary Fold when a light shower began to fall which fortunately only lasted a few minutes. Negotiating some heavy mud patches we descended Abbot Brow and walked a few hundred yards along the Longsight Road. We made our way to Oxendale Hall and then through Mire Wood where wood anemone were in bloom.

Recrossing the Longsight Road we retraced the early part of the route. Although we had estimated the length of the walk as six miles Howards GPS showed that it had been over seven whilst details from another source show it was 6 and a half!
A tired, but contented, party completed the walk in sunshine and upon arrival back in Accrington we were surprised to see that it must have rained quite heavily. Maybe 13 wasn't unlucky after all.
