| Boat's on Jumbles Reservoir | |
Jumbles Information Centre car park was the starting point for 23 members of Hyndburn Ramblers on an overcast Sunday lunchtime. The way started out heading north from the car park along the eastern edge of Jumbles reservoir with small yachts darting across its surface. Continuing along the well defined path past Jumbles we followed the watercourse up to Turton Bottoms. Joining the road we continued uphill to take the path off to the left across from Edgworth Methodist Church and it was but a short time later we arrived at the large expanse of Wayoh Reservoir.

After a short break for refreshments our way continued along the dam of the reservoir and up the good track to join the B6391 which was followed for a short while. We passed the magnificent St.Annes’ Church with its tall steeple and continued on down to the road junction at Chapeltown. Here, a sharp turn right took us up a good track which swung round towards a level crossing on the main Blackburn to Manchester line. Staying on the same side we took a path off to the left which followed the rail lines southwards passing one ornate bridge before joining, by way of a stile, the track to Turton Tower at the next, even more ornate, bridge.

Another break with tea and ice-cream was had at Turton Tower which seemed to be hosting some sort of period event, the exact nature of which couldn’t be ascertained. Resuming the walk we continued to rejoin the road and, turning right for a short while, we took the curiously named Horrobin Lane off to the left which led us down to once again join the waters edge of Jumbles Reservoir. A clear field path took us round to cross the bridge which spans the northern tip of the water. An extremely ‘rooty’ tree was waiting for us at the other end and comments were made as we turned right. We were once again on the track which we had started out on and, whilst the rain had mainly stayed away, a quick shower as we approached the Information Centre didn’t dampen our enthusiasm for the Sunday afternoon walk we had all enjoyed.
