HYNDBURN GROUP WALK LEADERS

Hyndburn Group would not be the thriving group it is if it were not for these volunteers. As well as leading any number of people out on any given weekend (or weekday) the effort that is put into any particular route can be immense. From planning the route to reccying the paths and then leading on the day they will also probably be your first point of contact whenever you venture out with the Group.

Some of our leaders have been around for many years whilst others will be endeavouring to lead for the first time. Either way they need your support. Please do remember to thank them if you join one of their walks as without them you'd be reduced to walking alone - or even at all!

Below is a rogues gallery of just some of Hyndburn Groups current Walk Leaders.

Phil Bedson

Current Webmaster and Walk Programme Co-Ordinator Phil has been walking with the Group since the early 1990's. Led his first walk in 1995 and has been involved with the Group since. Currently leads walks averaging 10-12 miles at a steady pace and loves a hill or two.

      David Hill

A leader since 1996 David has a wide range of walks logged in his head. Loves hill-walking but doesn't care much for canal towpaths! Renowned for his Christmas Mince Pie Walk. Averages 10-12 miles at a steady pace.

Pauline Hughes

Pauline is a long time leader for the group and her walks are always a pleasure and generally include a specific destination such as, in recent years, The Atom and The Halo. Again, averages 10-12 miles at a steady pace.

Robert Eccles

In only his second year of leading for Hyndburn Group, Robert is proving to be more than capable of leading good walks. Meticulously planned his walks average 12 miles at a steady pace.

Trevor Whittaker

Current Chairman of the Hyndburn Group and prolific walker. Has great knowledge of walking throughout the area and is known for his dry wit and humour. Generally does around 10-12 miles at a steady pace.

Nigel Brooke

Now in his third year as a leader for the Group, Nigel is the consummate gentleman. His walks are varied and can be a leisurely 8 miles or a more exerting 12 but are still done at a relaxed pace.

Gail Bedson

Hyndburn Group's Publicity & Promotion Officer is now a seasoned leader and a greatly improved walker. Her two offerings for 2012 however are more a reflection of herself - fun! Generally covers around 8 miles at a relaxed to steady pace.

Sue Baxendale

Another long time member and both the Area and Group Secretary, Sue has been a regular leader since 2004. Equally at home doing any type of walk but tends to do around 9 miles at a relaxed to steady pace.

Sheila Taylor

Sheila has led for the group since 2003. Has gained a reputation for good walks in all areas and is renowned for her January walk complete with Christmas cake. Covers 10-12 miles at a steady pace.

JoAnne Doran

A new leader for 2012 and has certainly pushed the boat out with 5 offerings incl 2 Lakeland Saturdays! A good walker whose bubbley personality is quite infectious. Walks average 10-12 miles and will probably be at a steady pace.

Steve Gilleard

Another new leader for 2012. Steve gets out most weekends and has quickly established himself as a friend to all. Has three walks on the new programme incl a Lakeland Saturday.

Dawn Taylor

Yet again, a new leader for 2012 who is a popular member of the group and decided to lead after enjoying the 2011 map and compass walks held by the group. Her walks are around 9 miles and will most likely be at a relaxed to steady pace.

Glenn Williams

The 4th new leader for 2012. Glenn is known for being easy to spot in his hi-viz jacket whilst out on the fells and loves the longer distance walks. To this end his three walks on the programme include two 15 milers which will be undertaken at a good pace.
