CANAL CLOG

Britain's longest canal, the Leeds-Liverpool canal, winds its wat through Hyndburn linking up most of stages 5 to 7 of the Clog to form an enjoyable circular walk of 32km / 20miles. The scenery varies all the time between townscape and green fields, farms and views to Pendle Hill and the Ribble Valley.

The canal was one of the most important factorsin the development of the industrial revolution. A free leaflet on its history called 'The Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Hyndburn' is available from Accrington Information Centre.

You can start at any point. Instructions are given from Stage 7 of the Clog. At the canal bridge, Cut Bridge, No.107 (SD715304) join the canal and follow the towpath eastwards through Rishton, Church and Clayton-le-Moors to Shuttleworth Hall Bridge, No.119 (SD784321). Turn left after passing under bridge and follow the instructions for the rest of Stage 5, all of Stage 6 and back to Stage 7.
