I think the changes make the home page look better and I'll hopefully get to tweak the other pages soon too. Any comments please use the email or facebook links under Contact Us and let me know what you think!! Cheers, and a Merry Christmas to you all, Phil.

There is a new page on the site all about Hyndburn Group Walk Leaders. It has been designed as an aid for any prospective new members who attend walks after looking at the website as they will be able to see which leaders may best suit their requirements and also what they look like so they know who to approach upon arrival. Any leader not yet featured will soon hopefully agree to have their photo put on the page.

Got a message via Facebook from Sarah Gardner at the Ramblers that I think is of interest to us all!!

"Hi everyone,

WE DID IT! Thanks to all your support, coastal access is a reality!

After ten years of campaigning and lobbying by the Ramblers, the Queen has given Royal Assent to legislation which will create a legal route around the whole of England. Thousands of miles of inaccessible and out-of-bounds coastline will be permanently opened up to the public with the implementation of the Marine and Coastal Access Act. This piece of legislation has taken almost two years to go through parliament and now, thanks to continuous lobbying from you, it will become law. This means that you will now be able to enjoy your coast, without fear of trespassing or being diverted miles inland.

Currently nearly 50% of the English coast has no public right of way, and the public can only walk an average 1.9 miles on the coast on a ‘secure or satisfactory path’. The Act creates a duty to put in place a continuous coastal path around England, which will join with the Welsh Coastal Path and the existing rights of access in Scotland, to give the public the right to walk around the entire British coast for the first time. The new legal path is expected to bring unprecedented access to millions and vitally boost the rural economy.

Many, many thanks for all the lobbying and campaigning you have done to make coastal access a reality - this historic Act would never have been possible without the fantastic support you have given us in this campaign.

However the hard work is not over!

After the passing of secondary legislation needed to turn the act into reality and public consultations on Natural England’s Coastal Access Scheme, the Ramblers will be looking to play a full and active role in planned 54 local access reports which will be needed to put the path in place over the next ten years.

To do this we need local ramblers and volunteer’s who know their section of the coast. If you want to get involved in this important work check out our Volunteers section of the Ramblers website over the next few months and get involved via your local group.

Thanks very much and congratulations for ensuring legal access to your coast!

Best wishes from,

The Campaigns and Policy team at the Ramblers"

17th July 2009

Okay folks. As stated just three short days ago a few changes have been made to the site.

First up is a major overhaul of the Walk Reports. There is now an index table detailing the date and walk title and whether the walk has photo's, any route details and a map. The reports now have larger pictures and in future, with this new format, there is a better scope for each report to have even more pics!

The next major change is the removal of the forum. As this feature was not being used by anyone, and due to the amount of spam mailings I was getting from it, I have decided to discontinue it.
There is a similar scope for any comments on the Hyndburn Group Facebook page and you can also add any photo's too.

The Sitemap has also been updated.

Finally. If there are any comments about the changes, either for better or for worse, or indeed if you can think of any other changes that would be of benefit, please do let us know.

Enjoy your new look site!

Phil Bedson

14th July 2009

Would you believe the walk report below is the 20th one for this year? There is also still another to come at the time of writing this which is remarkable when you consider we are only just over halfway through the year.
Due to this amount of reports though I have noticed that if anyone wants to read the report for, say, the fifth walk of the year, it has now got to a point where it takes forever for the photo's to load as they are so far down the Walk Reports page.
As we have also now started adding Route Details to some of the walks it has now become obvious that if I am going to be doing a seperate page I may as well do one for each walk!
So, over the next few days I am going to be implementing a few changes which will, hopefully, be an improvement with pages loading faster and both the report and the route details all on the same page for ease of use.

Please be patient with me on this matter and I do hope you will like the new, improved Hyndburn Ramblers Walk Reports pages.
