30th Anniversary Celebrations.
Well didn’t we have a good day. Many thanks to all those who helped organise the day – from Pauline Hughes with the extra publicity, Trevor Whittaker and Judith Addison our intrepid leaders. Both the walks finished at nearly the same time – well actually Trevor’s lot were just about to finish their first pints when we, the afternoon walkers, arrived. (At least they said it was only their first pint!!!) The Hyndburn Inn provided us with a good dish of potato pie and peas so we all went home full and happy. Even the weather was kind and the rain kept away.
Walks Programme Meeting for 2008
Our meeting on Monday 17 September was not as well attended as usual due to holidays and other commitments but thanks to some of our leaders sending their lists in, and others “volunteering” a little later on – we have managed to produce a varied programme for next year with some new names and destinations. A copy of the programme will be mailed out to all members later this month with the October Area News.
The 2008 Walks Programme will be online within a week or so - Phil
Invitation to All – members and hopefully soon to be members.
Don’t forget that everyone is invited to, and encouraged to come along to, our annual get together on Monday 19 November at 7.30 pm at Accrington Town Hall.
Although it is called our Annual General Meeting, and we do have to elect the officials and committee members to fulfil our constitutional requirements – the evening is far from formal. It is a great opportunity for everyone to meet the newly elected committee, put forward any ideas for the Group or ask any questions about the Hyndburn Group or the Ramblers’ Association generally.
After the formal part of the evening we will have tea and coffee, (with home made cakes) and a good chat to catch up with all the news and views.
Please do come along and support your Group and its’ officials. Just a couple of hours of your time once a year is surely not too much to ask.
So looking forward to a full house on Monday 19 November with lots of ideas and suggestions for the Group. After all it is YOUR Group so why not contribute to it?

29th August 2007
Apologies for delay in putting the following news from Sue Baxendale up onsite but I've recently moved and have only just got back online. Anyhow, here goes...
On Sunday the 9th of September (not 29th as stated in Area News!) we will be hosting a celebration for our 30th Anniversary. Being Ramblers we will be celebrating with a walk and a meal!
There will be two walks culminating in a potato pie tea at the Hyndburn Bridge Inn at approx. 4pm. Trevor Whittaker will lead the longer of the two walks and his party will meet at Plantation Street car park at 9am. Judith Addison will lead a shorter walk, again meeting at Plantation Street car park, but at the later time of 12 noon. Both walks will be in the local Hyndburn area and will finish in time for both parties to meet up for tea.
Even if you are not able to join one of the walks you will be most welcome to come along for tea, meet old friends and new friends and have a good chat over a meal and drink, as only ramblers can.
To aid with the catering we obviously need to have some idea of how many people will want to eat, so if you are having tea, (either with or without the walk!) then please phone Pauline Hughes on (01254) 725069 before Monday the 3rd of September.
Next up is a reminder of the Leaders meeting for 2008. This will be held at Lock Street club on Monday the 17th September 2007 and will commence at 7.30pm. If you can't manage to attend but would like to lead a walk next year then please Email Us full details along with your full name and address.
01st May 2007
There were a number of things to come out of the April Committee meeting which need to be highlighted on the site.
First up is that the start times of the Committee meetings has been brought forward from 7.30pm to 7.00pm. Please note this new time will be updated on the appropriate page.
Next is the news that Sustrans are making a bid for £50million and have included in their potential projects the old railway line between Great Harwood and Padiham. More on this in the Hyndburn Group Section on our Forum HERE
Also on the Forum is your chance to make your mark on behalf of all walkers by helping to reinstate a part of the Ribble Way path at Sawley which was the subject of a Public Inquiry about ten years ago. More details on this can be found in the Area Section on the Forum HERE
