Just a reminder that the Group AGM will take place this coming Monday, 20th November, at Town Hall Accrington.

20th July 2006
Due to unforseen circumstances it is with great regret I have had to tender my resignation from the Hyndburn Group of the Ramblers Association and the N E Lancs Area. Walking with the Group is something I will miss enormously and I will hopefully 'guest' on walks in the future. I have made many friends within the Group, and indeed within other Groups, and again I will definitely miss you all. Thank you for all your support over the previous 12 years I have served as Chair and within my other roles.

Yours

Phil Bedson

Further to the news article below from June the first it is regrettable that Paul Gott's walk will have to be cancelled. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. It would also be appreciated if as many members as possible could help to verbally spread the word as not everyone will read this notification. Thank-you very much.

01st June 2006
Received the following from one of the participants of the Millenium Way walk over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. Thought it deserved to be put up here.

Dear Phil,

Thank you for the opportunity to join Hyndburn Ramblers on the Millenium Way walk. The organisation was absolutely first class, particularly the mini-bus; the leadership and map reading with yourself and David was beyond reproach. I was made very welcome and it was good to see so many 'old' friends and make new one's.

The weather overall blessed us, the area was outstanding, what can I say about the views..."Oh hell aye! Well worth the effort". Due to holidays and other commitments I will not be able to walk for a couple of months however, thanks to your walk programme, I will be joining you again.

Doug

Hopefully I'll have a report on the walk up by the weekend.

At the Committee Meeting last week a couple of changes amongst the Officers was proposed. The Minutes Secretary and the Treasurer will be swapping roles at the AGM in November. The current treasurer, K. Dwyer, will also be the new Publicity Officer.
The Footpath Officer role is currently vacant although an idea from a committee member has been put forward and we are awaiting confirmation either way.
If anybody wishes to join the Hyndburn Group Committee either as an Officer or just a member then please do E-mail our chairman, Phil Bedson.

Received today from Peter Mason of Hyndburn Borough Council

"I am very sorry to hear about Norman. He was such a good man, full of energy and enthusiasm. A real gentleman who will be sorely missed. He worked extremely hard to improve public footpaths in Hyndburn and I appreciate his help and the effort that he put in over the years."

26th February 2006
Two pieces of very sad news I'm afraid.

It is with great sadness that I have to report the sudden death of Norman Jeffrey whilst out walking on Saturday the 25th. Having held the post of the Groups Footpath Officer for the last three years, he had built up a great relationship between the Group and the local council and was responsible for getting loads of improvements and re-opening blocked fp's.
All our sympathies go out to his family at this time.

At the same time we also heard of the sudden death of the N E Lancs Area Chairman Bill Clegg whilst out walking on the 21st. Our deepest sympathies go to Bill's Family also.

17th February 2006
Two new links added to the Links page.
